We have exciting news on the spay/neuter front: Animal Rahat reached a major milestone recently in its sterilization program. As you may know, Animal Rahat has set up pilot spay/neuter clinics in several villages in which no one had ever focused on sterilizing the “community dogs.”
We’re pleased to announce that in the village of Vadji, we have now sterilized every single community dog—a first for this region! Below are some of the dogs with Vadji residents, who have now become convinced of the necessity and effectiveness of the program and who will help us spread the word so that we can persuade other village councils to participate.
Other accomplishments last month included the following:
- Providing 1,241 bullocks, horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, and other animals with crucial veterinary care
- Deworming 281 community dogs
- Persuading 29 bullock owners to paint their bullocks’ water tanks with lime to help protect against bacteria and parasites
- Holding training workshops in four villages on grooming bullocks and treating them for ectoparasites (e.g., mites, lice, ticks, etc.)
- Persuading five bullock owners to retire their bullocks permanently and allow them to live at home for the rest of their lives, rather than selling them for slaughter
