Your generosity also helped ensure that 330 donkeys received vaccinations for tetanus, which is common where they are worked, literally to death, in the brick kilns in the village of Udgaon.
Tetanus comes from bacteria in the soil that take advantage of open cuts and wounds to infect animals. It can cause extreme suffering and even death if left untreated. This work is crucial because there is a high incidence of hoof injuries among these working donkeys. The photo above shows a puncture wound.
Were it not for the Animal Rahat team, this donkey would have suffered greatly. The team also had a discussion with all the donkey owners about the importance of regular hoof-picking and inspection, a novel concept to them all.
