Over the years, Animal Rahat has rescued numerous dogs, hyenas, and other animals who have fallen down abandoned wells, but last month was the first time that the team encountered a cow in one of these deathtraps. After receiving a call about the situation, our vets raced to the scene and found the terrified cow at the bottom of this 50-foot-deep well. Can you see her there inside the red circle?

The team immediately developed a rescue plan. First, it had to procure a tractor. Next, two Animal Rahat staffers and a volunteer descended into the well and found, to their amazement, that the cow had no broken bones or serious injuries. They then calculated the cow’s weight and administered enough general anesthetics to knock her out. Next, they secured her unconscious body to a cart and used ropes to tie the cart to the tractor.

In just one careful attempt, they succeeded in hauling her all the way out without so much as a scratch. A little while later, the cow’s owner was able to walk her back home to safety.
