There’s more wonderful news from Animal Rahat! Here are photos of some of our beautiful rescued donkeys.

Here they are at our partner sanctuary in the verdant Nilgiri Hills. They love to roam and graze in the pastures that dot the mountainside—freed forever from grueling labor in the sweltering brick kilns.

However, these mountains are also home to panthers. To protect the donkeys from panthers, who have been increasing their prowling around the compound at night and seeking donkeys to eat, we have had to install bright lights and a high fence around the corral. This was a substantial expense, so we’re seeking donations to cover the cost.

The donkeys are now inside the high fence at night and safe from predators. As you can see from the enthusiasm of the donkey in the foreground, they have also declared the corral a prime area for dust baths—a favorite equine “spa” activity that rids their skin of sweat and ectoparasites.
