Carelessly discarded tar was set to create a death trap for an unfortunate Russell’s Viper, who became hopelessly mired as the hardening substance pulled at his skin and hindered his breathing. But a kind observer knew who he could call for help. Animal Rahat rescuers rushed to the scene, gently sedated their venomous patient, and began hammering at the now-solid mass in which he was encased. After transferring the excavated material back to the nearest field office, the team began the hours-long process of removing it bit by bit from the snake’s skin with soothing coconut oil. Once they had erased every trace of the noxious substance, rescuers escorted him to a much safer spot in the forest near where they found him and watched him slide away.
