A sharp-eyed observer noticed the end of an even sharper fishing hook protruding from a river turtle’s delicate mouth and knew where to find help fast. Racing to treat the turtle before she swallowed the hook or it caused more damage, our vets sedated her and carefully removed the metal spike. As their patient came out of her shell, her energy and appetite improved. When the team released her back into the Krishna River, they issued a stern warning to nearby anglers about the harm caused by fishing and discarded equipment.
