Remember the pony whose vulva was cruelly “stapled” shut with copper wire to prevent her from mating?

It must have been excruciating to endure the pain of those “staples,” but it turns out that Animal Rahat’s intervention helped the pony narrowly avoid even greater agony. While this horrific practice is meant to prevent mating, in Jaya’s case it seems the gruesome act was done too late to be effective birth control—and nearly had serious, potentially fatal consequences.

Just a few days after Animal Rahat removed the torturous wires and took her back to the sanctuary, she gave birth to a handsome colt named Rudi.

Rudi the foal is the newest resident of Animal Rahat's sanctuary.

Rudi is a happy, healthy boy who will grow up in peace with his loving mother and the other rescued animals at Animal Rahat’s sanctuary.

Rudi nurses from his mother shortly after his birth at the sanctuary.

You can help care for Rudi, his mother, and all the sanctuary residents—plus tens of thousands of other animals—by making a gift to support Animal Rahat’s essential work today.
