When the Animal Rahat team first spotted Jay and Kishan, the two bullocks were struggling to haul a cart piled high with sugarcane—and blood could be seen dripping from Jay’s nose. They needed help urgently, so Animal Rahat made their destitute and desperate owner an offer. In exchange for agreeing to retire the bullocks into Animal Rahat’s care, the team would help fund the purchase of a tractor to replace them. The man agreed, and not long afterward, the bullocks were on their way to their peaceful new life.

Animal Rahat’s veterinary staff discovered that Kishan and Jay were suffering from foot-and-mouth disease, a condition that causes painful blisters inside the mouth and on the hooves. Imagine the agony these sensitive animals must have been in while pulling a heavy cart on blistered feet!

Animal Rahat provided the pair with expert treatment, which allowed them to make a full recovery, after which they were taken to the group’s beautiful sanctuary.

Thanks to the support provided by Animal Rahat donors, Jay and Kishan will never toil under a heavy yoke again. The pair will spend the rest of their days relaxing in the shade, playing with the other sanctuary residents, enjoying grooming sessions with their caregivers, and snacking on fresh, green grass.
