Animal Rahat team members were driving on a busy road when they spotted a pony being forced to run alongside the traffic. She had been tethered to a motorbike and had to run behind it to avoid being dragged to death. After being stopped by Animal Rahat, the men riding the bike explained that they were “training” the pony to race for money. Beyond the dangers posed by her proximity to traffic, the Animal Rahat staffers also noticed that she was struggling so hard to breathe that her whole body was heaving. Then they discovered something even worse.

After arriving at Animal Rahat’s sanctuary, the pony—now named Marguerite—received medical treatment, including antibiotics to prevent her wounds from becoming infected. She was also dewormed and vaccinated against tetanus.

These days, Marguerite spends her time in the company of the other rescued ponies and horses, and the only time she has to run is when she feels like it. And now that she’s in the care of the Animal Rahat team, she never has to worry about being hurt or abused ever again.
