During the Karwani festival, many people paint working animals in bright colors and parade them about, a practice that can involve toxic paints and painful shearing of their sensitive horns. Animal Rahat is determined to change that. Staff visited 15 villages where the festival is celebrated in a big way, speaking with bull owners, displaying banners, and following up to encourage a “white” Karwani of harmless paints and horn decorations. Thanks to the team’s work, 1,044 animals were spared from old practices that can cause cancer and enjoyed the festival.
