A few months pregnant at the time, Jwala moved to the Sangli sanctuary after staff mechanized her owner’s tonga (two-wheeled passenger cart) business. Seven months later, she gave birth to Janaki, the darling foal you see under the beautiful tree above, who will never have to feel the snap of a whip or receive the harsh commands that her mother once endured.
