As part of our ongoing effort to help families who depend on animals for their livelihoods see them as individuals and understand their unique needs, Sangli hosted our first all-female visitors’ day to coincide with National Women’s Day. The women were treated to a presentation about the sanctuary and some of its residents, including cows who were rescued from dairy farms, bullocks freed from sugar cane factories, and horses once used for weddings and other events. They got a chance to groom bullocks, horses, and camels and see them living as they should: free of tight tethers, getting their fill of food and fresh water, relaxing in the shade with friends, and enjoying treats and affection. Many of the women expressed their gratitude for Animal Rahat’s work, and we’re planning to host more female-focused educational outings.
